Ultrasound Technician?

Ultrasound Technician? What are the training requirements for ultrasound technology (I'm not certain if this is the correct term. It can be "Diagnostic Sonographer or sometihng.) I want to go to school to do that, to work in an OB / obstetrician. Does anyone know of any school in Indiana that offer a degree? Thanks

When thinking of getting an ultrasound program, you need not worry so much certificate vs. degree. What matters is that you go to an accredited program, either college or hospital based. An accredited program allows you to make the registration (license) to graduation exams. Once you get licensed, you never asked about his school again. An employer does not care what route to take to obtain a license, just want you to have that license. Do not waste your time or money in an unaccredited program. Upon completion and graduation from an unaccredited program, you should work in the field of sonography for a full year before taking their licensing exams. However, you will have a hard time finding an employer to hire you, unless that are licensed. I would suggest you observe an imaging department to get an idea of what ultrasonographers done daily. There is much more than exploring the pregnant women. Most people have no idea what is involved in this race! You can find a list of accredited schools in your area, by searching for "the medical diagnostic ultrasound "and their status at the following site. There are links provided for each program, which will give additional information (including courses duration): Ultrasound http://www.caahep.org/Find_An_Accredited_Program.aspx only accredited school in Indiana, is San Antonio Medical Center – Crown Point, IN. Many people, myself included, go to school to become a radiologic technologist, before continuing to ultrasound school. Indeed, it may be difficult to achieve in u / s school without the RT license. There are many more options for X-ray schools in most states. You can find here by searching "radiography" and their status: http://www.jrcert.org/cert/Search.jsp there are 18 accredited RT programs in Indiana. Payment for ultrasound technicians can vary, depending on experience and geographic location. The American Society of Radiologic Technologists just did a salary survey of large size. You can see the amount of MI and / or technologist ultrasound on average per year, as it here: https: / / www.asrt.org/media/pdf/research/wss2007/wss07annualcompensation.pdf
