Tata Sky is a provider of DTH satellite television in India, MPEG-2 technology by using digital compression, transmission using INSAT 4A to 83.0.
History
It is a joint venture between the Tata Group, which owns 80% and STAR TV that owns a stake of 20%. Tata Sky was incorporated in 2004 but was only launched in 2006. It currently offers nearly 140 channels and some are interactive.
The company uses the Sky brand owned by British Sky Broadcasting.
In October 2008, Tata Sky has announced the launch of the PVR service Tata Sky + which has allowed 45 hours of recording in MPEG-4 compatible set top Box. The remote comes with playback control keys and comes with special offers for subscribers.
In 2008, based in Singapore Temasek Holdings picked up 10% stake in Tata Sky Tata Group. That Tata has diluted its stake in the joint venture to 70%.
